While screening is primarily concerned with easily defined inclusion and exclusion criteria and your general health, this stage involves a more thorough examination because not all inclusion and exclusion criteria can be assessed by questions. The tests and examinations performed during the screening stage are different for each clinical trial – physical exam, blood tests, scans, biopsies, etc. In all cases, your doctor and/or the clinical trial coordinator will give you a clear overview of all the tests and examinations involved in the study in advance.
In fact, you need this information before you can give informed consent. A thorough examination is essential to ensure that you are indeed eligible for the clinical trial and to get a good picture of your health, so that we can better assess whether you can safely participate.
